My parents had always been believers and I had always attended church with them growing up in Cape Town. I can remember worshiping at children’s church and feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit at the tender age of 8. Even though I grew up attending church and being in a safe bubble of the local church community I was always influenced by the happenings of the outside world. I did not always have a relationship with the Lord. I started surfing at the age of 13 and by the time I was 17 I had met a crew of Christian Surfers at my local beach in Cape Town. I was always a shy boy who found it tough to make friends, because of this I cherished the relationships I built with my new Christian surfer friends and attended the weekly gatherings of CS in my local area. Through the platform presented at my local CS my confidence and faith grew incredibly and I ended up becoming a leader at the same weekly CS gathering a couple years later. This is when I saw my relationship with the Lord grow exponentially. As time passed I became more and more involved within CS South Africa and linked up with CS clubs around the country through the annual CS South Africa National Gatherings.
Through the new relationships built, I was given the opportunity to travel around South Africa and represent Christian Surfers nationally through serving at some the biggest WQS and junior contests in the country. By serving and rubbing shoulders with the most influential characters within the SA surf industry I realised the massive opportunity we have to positively impact the local surf industry and the young surfers through spreading the love of Jesus. Many hours of hard work were put in to the last contest season and many strong relationships were built between CS and the local figures within the South African surf industry. More and more key figures in the industry are opening up to CS and becoming more inviting, this confirms that there is a revival occurring in the surf industry here at the Southern tip of Africa. I have witnessed first-hand how Jesus is working through this surf industry and impacting many people in the process. I can only be excited for what the Lord has in store for Christian Surfers and the local surf community here in South Africa.
As for myself CS has provided a platform for me along the years to combine my passions and my faith. Even the smallest of CS gatherings have such a large impact on surf communities. I can confirm this through my experiences throughout the years. I look forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for CS South Africa. So many surfers have been impacted by the love of Jesus within the local surf industry. Through my experiences I believe this is only the start of something incredibly big.
Mis padres siempre fueron creyentes y al crecer en Ciudad del Cabo, siempre atendía la iglesia con ellos. Recuerdo estar alabando en el culto de niños y sentir la presencia del Espíritu Santo cuando tenia 8 años de edad. Aunque crecí atendiendo la iglesia y viviendo en una burbuja muy segura dentro de la comunidad cristiana, el mundo externo siempre tenia influencia sobre mi. No siempre tube una relación con el Señor. Empecé a surfear a los 13 años, y para cuando tenía 17 años, había conocido un grupo de Christian Surfers en mi playa local de Ciudad del Cabo. Siempre fui un niño tímido a quien se le hacia difícil formar nuevas amistades, y por ese motivo, las amistades que tenia con mis nuevos amigos de Christian Surfers eran muy valiosas para mi, y me congregaba con ellos en las reuniones semanales de CS. Por medio de esas reuniones, mi confianza y mi fe crecieron de una forma increíble, y dos años después, me convertí en un líder de esas mismas reuniones semanales de CS. Fue durante ese tiempo que vi crecer exponencialmente mi relación con Dios. Conforme iba pasando el tiempo, me involucré más y más en CS Sudáfrica y conocí más clubs de CS del país por medio del congreso anual de CS Sudáfrica.
Por medio de las nuevas amistades, tuve la oportunidad de viajar por Sudáfrica y representar a Christian Surfers a nivel nacional, sirviendo en algunos de los torneos juveniles y de WQS en el país. Al servir y trabajar con algunas de las personas más influyentes de la industria del surf de Sudáfrica, me di cuenta de la increíble oportunidad que tenemos de impactar de forma positiva al mundo del surf y a los jóvenes surfers cuando compartimos el amor de Jesús. Se invirtieron muchas horas the trabajo en la última temporada de torneos, y se formaron muy buenas relaciones entre CS y miembros de la industria del surf sudafricano. Hay más y más miembros de la industria que se están abriendo a CS e involucrándonos más y más. Esto confirma que hay un avivamiento en la industria de surf en el extremo sur de Africa. He sido testigo de primera mano de cómo Dios está obrando por medio del surf e impactando a muchas personas en el proceso. Estoy emocionado por lo que Dios tiene planeado para Christian Surfers y la comunidad local de surfers de Sudáfrica.
Y en cuanto a mi personalmente, CS me ha dado una plataforma en la que puedo combinar mi pasión y mi fe. Aun las reuniones más pequeñas de CS tienen un impacto muy grande en la comunidad de surf. Puedo confirmar esto después de la experiencia que he tenido a través de los años. Espero ver con ansias cómo va a obrar Dios en CS Sudáfrica. Tantos surfers en nuestra comunidad local han sido impactados por el amor de Jesús. Por mi experiencia, creo que esto es nada más el comienzo de algo increíblemente grande.
